PDQ PLASTICS INC. has expanded its pallet line to include the rackable, double-faced pallets manufactured by the REHRIG PACIFIC COMPANY.
"For many years we have had trouble recommending a double-faced rackable pallet to our customers for the simple reason that we did not have confidence in the products that were available. That has changed," said Hartson Poland, general manager of PDQ. "The pallets that we have been molding since 1969 are made of solid material, not sheet, and not structural foam. Our customers have come to identify our pallets with the extreme durability that comes from that difference. For us to turn around and recommend a double-faced pallet molded of structural foam went against the core of who and what we are. Then we found the REHRIG PACIFIC HuskyLite. The HuskyLite is molded of solid polypropylene, a resin with good stiffness and impact resistance. This alone was enough for us to look seriously at the Huskylite. What further impressed us was the well thought out design of the pallet. Molded in two halves, the pallets securely lock top to bottom, but will come apart if abused by the common occurrence of pallet jack separation pressure. The pallet can be easily put back together without tools."
"We have always thought that pallets should have no loose pieces that might come off and become a hazard in some way," said Barry Nathans, PDQ President. "Many pallet manufacturers use screws or some other kind of fasteners to hold pallet components together. In time, any of theses devices end up on the floor, or worse, in process. The same thing goes for the rubber buttons that are often used as anti-skid devices on pallets. REHRIG PACIFIC has solved the anti-skid problem by featuring a unique textured surface that we have found to be very affective. Solid material, no loose pieces, innovative design, it looked like we had a pallet that we could recommend. So now we had to test it."
"Here at PDQ, besides the extensive quality control that goes into the manufacturing process of our pallets, we also have an ongoing program of product testing. Some of the tests are not particularly scientific," Hartson said. "The sludge hammer test, the steel beam test, the wheel loader test, all of which might not be on the usual lab schedule, but along with more conventional application testing, will demonstrate whether or not a pallet is going to take abuse over the long haul. As we suspected, the HuskyLite did very well."
As well as the HuskyLite, PDQ will also feature REHRIG PACIFIC'S new Box beam pallet. With rackability ratings in the 3,000 pound range, the Box Beam may be the better choice for the customer who will be edge racking heavier loads on a consistent basis.
"The clincher for us," said Hartson, "was the business culture that we found at REHRIG PACIFIC. We pride ourselves on being very customer oriented. We found the people at REHRIG PACIFIC to be as responsive as we have always been. Good pallet, good company, good people. We knew we had found a fit."
